Definition:

Single Parent Households-– A single parent household includes a householder and one or more or the householder's related never-married children under 18 years old (no spouse is living in the household). Single parents have never been married, are divorced, married but separated from their spouse or widowed.

 

Important Note-- Single parent households may include other relatives or nonrelatives living in the household.
