Definition:
Median Home Value-- The median home value or sales
price is the amount which divides the series into two equal parts, one-half of
the units with values higher than the median and the other half with values
lower than the median.
Value-- The respondent’s estimate of
how much the property (house and lot) would sell if it were for
sale.
Important Note--
This
tabulation includes only “specified owner-occupied housing units,” defined as
one-family houses on less than ten acres without a business or medical office on
the property. Excluded from this
tabulation are mobile homes, houses with a business or medical office, houses on
10 or more acres and housing units in multi-unit structures. Certain tabulations elsewhere include the
value of all owner-occupied housing units and vacant-for-sale
units.
Comparability— Median Home Value
for 2000 is not directly comparable to 1990. In Census 2000, the question on home value
was asked on a sample basis (on average, 1 in every 6 households). In 1990 and
other previous decennial censuses, the question on value was asked on a
100-percent basis.
