Definition:

Retail Sales-- Sales tax receipts are reported by type of tax for each municipality and county in Illinois.  The Dept. of Commerce and Economic Opportunity estimates retail sales for municipalities by dividing the tax collected by the municipal tax by 1 percent.  Retail sales for counties are estimated by adding the municipal and county taxes collected in the county and dividing by 1 percent.
