Remarks
Havana has a weekly newspaper, which is the oldest
 established business in the county.  The Mason 
County Democrat has been publishing since 1849, 
and is the largest circulation newspaper in the 
county.  Havana Public Library is the oldest 
continuously used Carnegie library in Illinois.  
Fire Dept. volunteer numbers are actually paid on 
call.

Mason District Hospital recently received full 
accreditation with commendation from the Joint 
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare 
Organizations (JCAHO).  This places Mason District
 in the upper 10% of all hospitals in the entire 
nation.  MDH is also served by Specialty Clinic 
which includes cardiologists, oncologists, general
 surgeons, opthalmologists, podiatrists, ear nose 
& throat specialists, obstetrics & gynecologists.
