MEANS OF EGRESS & FIRE PROTECTION CHECKLIST
Instructions: Use this worksheet to inspect your facility for compliance. If the question does not apply to your situation, mark "N/A". A "No" answer indicates that corrective action is required to remedy the situation. Take action now. Bring this worksheet back to class next week and discuss your results or any problems you had to deal with.

EXITING OR EGRESS Yes/No
Are all exits marked with an exit sign and illumi-nated by a reliable light source (can be ambient light)?
Are the directions to exits, when not immediately apparent, marked with visible signs?
Are all exit doors side-hinged(overhead and revolving doors are not accepted as exits)?
Are all exits kept free of obstructions?
Are there at least 2 exits remote from each other in buildings to permit prompt escape in case of emergency?
Can all exit doors be opened without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort when the building is occupied?
Where exit doors open directly onto any street, alley or other area where vehicles may be operated, are adequate barriers and warnings provided to prevent employees from stepping into the path of traffic?
Are all doors that are not exits marked to indicate their character, if their purpose is not obvious (store rooms, doors that open to a dead-end space where employees can become trapped)?
FIRE PROTECTION & EMERGENCY ACTION Yes/No
Are fire extinguishers selected and provided for the types of materials in areas where they are to be used?
Class A (Ordinary combustible material fires)
Class B (Flammable liquid, gas or grease fires)
Class C (Energized-electrical equipment fires)
Are appropriate fire extinguishers mounted within 75 feet (22.86 meters) of outside areas containing flammable liquids, and within 10 feet (3.048 meters) of any inside storage area for such materials?
Are extinguishers free from obstructions or blockage?
Are all extinguishers serviced, maintained and tagged at intervals not to exceed 1 year?
Are all extinguishers fully charged and in their designated places?
Is an Emergency Action Plan required for your operation?
Are employees adequately trained to know the proper emergency response?
Do you explain to new employees exactly what you expect them to do in an emergency at the time of hire?
Do you comply with the Fight-No-Fight Decision Tree?
